BAD_POOL_HEADER Blue Screen of Death

I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. My PC stopped
yesterday (06-02-08) at the so-called BAD_POOL_HEADER Blue Screen of Death.
It absolutely stopped. I pressed and held the start button until the PC
shut down. Then I restarted it and and it worked okay. Then I ran
CheckDisk and it has been working okay for a day. This is the first time I
have had this with blue. I had one similar with a white background and
regular print. (can't remember for sure about text details of this past
event, but, it was several weeks ago)

The error message:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

BAD_POOL_HEADER

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. It this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. (AVG
8 Free is the latest new software, updates have been frequently installed)
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer,
press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x00000010 (0x00000020, 0x8736D280, 0x8736D290, 0x0A020001)"

Any simpler ideas on preventing this again? Thanks.

Chris.
