Bad sound when playind CD

Recently purchased XP Home education.
CD/RW 16X12X40X Drive worked fine with windows 98 SE.
After XP Home installation I hear skips and schudder
sounds on any CD.

Please help

Hello

Can you provide your pc make ad model and maybe
your pc is still using win98 drivers instead of Xp drivers
take a look at that

look to see if your cd is using DMA or PIO. In device manager expand the ide port if your cd is on ide 1 or ide2
then go into advanced setting tab be sure it is using DMA instead of PIO, your cd will not play sound correctly otherwise.
