Hello,

I have a bad hdd. I can backup all my data.
I want to copy this to a new hdd and to reinstall win2000.
Is this possible? Do I have all my old settings back?
( I have tried to make an image with Drive Image. This is not working. I get
an read error)
What are the procedures?

thanks.

I would recomend Norton Ghost, it will let you copy the whole disk data and
settings to a different size disk also, Beware do not get the source and
destination disk mixed up. You can buy it at Future Shop or Best Buy.

Pocket,

You will not want to "clone" the bad disk as you probably will get data
errors and corruption. Ghost (and I believe Drive Image) will let you do
this by setting it to overlook otherwise fatal errors - in this case not a
good idea. You say you can backup your data. Do so, then install your new
drive and do a clean install of Win 2000. You will lose your settings,
although you may still be able to get a good backup of your profile and
restore it after the rebuild.

Get the drive utility from your drive manufacture's web site and run it
against the bad HD. You may find that some repairs are available, such as
mapping around bad blocks. The drive may again be usefull after this
procedure, but I wouldn't trust it for anything I considered very important.
