A friend has WindowsXP on an HP Pavilion (Athlon 850)and
an Nvidia Geforce4 MX440 64MB AGP graphics card. BMPs and
GIFs appear to be showing at the the wrong color depth.
They look like they are being displyed at 16 or 256 colors
(shades of safe mode), but the machine is running in 16-
bit mode. I tried changing to 32-bit mode and it made no
difference. I figured it must be a driver issue so I
downloaded and installed the latest unified driver from
from Nvidia. It made absolutely no difference either.
JPEGs don't have the color problem, but they appear
slightly artifacty (I know there is no such word, but it
descibes it best). I am out of ideas as to what could be
wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
