'BAD COMMAND' DOS prompt when I turn on laptop...

Hi, for some unknown reason... when I now turn on my HP
pavillion laptop, Windows 2000 does NOT open... and I get
the following (with black screen / DOS prompts):

475 Mhz AMD K6-2+ CPU

C:\>C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1\SCAN.EXE C:\
Bad command or file name

C:\>REM [Header]
Bad command or file name
C:\>

I have read the "How to Perform Clean-Boot
Troubleshooting for Windows 2000" but this only explains
how to do this once windows has opened. I have tried
typing 'win' at the DOS prompt but it says that it's
a "bad command or file name" Any suggestions? Maybe a
DOS command that will run a Clean Boot or
troubleshooting? I can F2 to run Setup but I do nopt know
what to do after that. I also see that McAfee program
may be trying to open when I turn on my computer (see
above), which may be causing the problem of opening
Windows 2k. How would I disable this McAfee from causing
the problem and open windows 2k? Would greatly
appreciate any help? Thanks!

Michael,

That doesn't look like windows 2000 is even trying to boot. It looks like a
msdos boot loader, like booting win95. You don't have a floppy disk or
bootable cd in your PC when you are turning it on do you?

It actually looks to me as though someone has had Mcafee
Virus Scanner on the C:/ drive and then tried to REM it
from booting, which has caused the PC to load no more.

Start the PC holding down the F8 key at the top of the
keyboard, this should boot the PC into Safe Mode.
The PC should now boot but without any drivers so the
screen may look slightly pale and Safe Mode will be
visible on the desktop.

Once in there you can either remove MCcafee or choose to
install it properly.
