Does anyone know if there are any issues with a movie made in ver 5.1 being
played on older versions of media players (i.e. pre win 2000) with no access
to internet to download latest codecs?

Movie maker is independent of Win Media players.
If you can produce a clip via WMM, then on that PC
will be all that is required for playback via WMP on
same PC.
WMM produces files, that may not be compatible
some types of propriatary media players.

The version of movie maker I have is 5.1 and yes you are correct in that I
do want to try to create some clips in WMM on one PC to be played on another.


Currently I have Win Media player 10 installed on my PC and I currently have
access to the internet to download a number of codecs should I need to -
everything works fine, no probs. But my collegues unfortunately do not have
the same access to the internet to upgrade their media player or download
codecs.

Hence the initial question.

Hi
There is not a version 5.1 of WMM.
WMM can only produce limited type of files,
There are several factors to be considered.
On the authoring PC, if you intend producing files
to copy as data to CD/DVD and transfer to other
PC's, then produce the clips as WMV.
It is of course trial and error from that point.
If you intend using authoring software to produce
DVD-Video's, then the PC's for intended playback
will require DVD decoding software etc.

I suggest you just produce WMV clips via WMM.
Burn them to disk as data.
On the playback PC's, transfer them to a folder.
Playback should be OK, if not, post back.

5.1 is your version of Windows. If you look
below that you should see:
Windows Movie Maker Version 2.1.4026.0.

For playback WMP10 would be the best
option but it's possible that the .wmv clips
would play on WMP9 or even as early as
WMP7.

For maximum backward compatibility you can output your clip using one of the
built in "WMV7 codec", which should play most places.

In the Save Movie wizard, first screen allows you to select a name for
the saved movie and the next screen is "Movie Settings". Click on "Show
more options..." and you will have all the different options to select.
Select Video for Pocket PC. (Full screen).

Although this uses WMV7 codec, this is 15fps and 320x240. You can make a
640x480 size 30fps profile using the custom profile editor:
