I am stumped. I faithfully backed up my CPU through the built-in back up
program in XP. I saved the back-up on another internal Hard Drive. My cpu
crashed and when I went to restore the backed-up program, it processed
everything but it doesn't appear to have loaded. None of my personal files,
pic's, music etc... are on it.... I followed all the directions and still
nothing.
The good thing is that I did not delete the backed-up program yet and it is
still on my other hard drive.... Is there a way to "open" up that backed up
program and extract only the files and folders that i am currently missing
now that I have reinstalled the XP operating system? Definately, I
appreciate any help in advance

Please further your education, you can't backup a CPU.
you can however backup an HD and or personal data residing on the HD, and
the entire operating system.
You should be able to explore the old backup, using the restore portion of
backup.
but I should stress, ntbackup is a poor choice for backup software, I would
use either Acronis TI (latest version) or ghost

Always back up your most important data to write once CDs. And, do it on
multiple CDs. This way, one can always get your most important data
back.
