if you want to backup whole computer image, you may want to use ghost. If you just want to backup the data, you can use xcopy or robocopy.

I'm new to home networking but have managed to network (CAT5 cable) my old
PC with XPSP2 HE & 40Gb HDD via Netgear ADSL Firewall Router DG834 to my new
PC also with XP SP2 HE but with 400Gb HDD. I want to take a complete image
or backup of the 40Gb drive on the new PC before I reformat it & reinstall
XP as its now so sluggish. What is the best way to do this? The 40Gb drive
is partitioned into 3 parts each approx 13Gb in size. The new 400Gb PC is
not partitioned & I'm wondering if I should partition it for best
performance or leave it as one enormous drive.
Do I need bespoke backup software to aid in this or will XP SP2 suffice??
thanks
