have been using the backup utility very successfully up until the last two
nights and I have been having problems whereby the backk-up doesn't start but
hangs at the stage of 'Preparing to backup using Shadow Copy' then after a
while it comes up with the following report:

Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "C Drive 07-11-07.bkf created 07/11/2007 at 17:44"

Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1.
Timeout before function completed

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy: 0xffffffff.

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:ffffffff
Aborting Backup.

----------------------

The operation did not successfully complete.

----------------------

I backup up to an external hard drive and have not had any problems until
now. Can anyone help me please as to why this is happening.

Thanks

Judy

it's never a good idea to send a backup to the C: drive.
You could be running out of space for the backups

I don't backup to the C:drive, I backup to an external drive as I mentioned.

It is the C:drive that I am trying to back up.

Jude - Note the follwoing from your "error" report "...Media name: "C Drive
07-11-07.bkf created 07/11/2007 at 17:44"..."

Verify your backup settings have not changed and that backup location has
not changed to "C".
