Backup Utility Looking for Old Location

I've installed the backup tool on my new machine.

When I try to backup, a box comes up saying that the backup path doesn't
exist and references the old path from my old machine, rather than the new
path I've configured it for on the new machine.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated since I don't want to lose my
data. Thanks.

"The backup tool". That is a description, not a product name. So
what was it that you actually installed?

If you are asking about the Personal Folders Backup (PFB) utility from
Microsoft which runs as an add-on in Outlook, why not use the File ->
Backup menu to get to the config options of PFB to change the store
path?

Of course, if Outlook data is important than so also are all the data
files you produce using other applications which means you should
already be doing backups (and which would include the .pst file, too).
PFB is superfluous if you are already doing file backups - unless you
do the file backups so infrequently that you need to save the ever
changing .pst file more frequently.

I am using the PFB utility, and I am using the file backup menu to configure
it. The problem is that when it actually attempts to do the backup, a window
appears saying that the backup path I've entered doesn't exist and references
the old path from my old machine, rather than the new path I've configured
it for on the new machine.

I can't see how anything from your "old machine" got onto your new
machine unless you put it there. Installing software on one host
doesn't telepathically get settings from another host; otherwise,
everyone would end up using the same settings in every instance of the
same installed software. At some time, you specified that original
path.

So which is the "old path" that you cannot change? Is it from where
you get the data to backup (i.e., the source .pst files) specified in
the "Backup these personal folders files"? Or is it where you want to
save the backups as specified in the "Backup the file selected above
to this location"? The PST folders that you backup cannot be changed
in PFB. PFB simply shows you the message stores that you have defined
in the Data Management function (under the File menu) within Outlook.
If it is the destination path of where to create the backup file that
you cannot change then perhaps you don't have permission to wherever
you are trying to save the backup file. Use the Browse button next to
the "Backup the file selected above to this location" setting to pick
a path. If the destination path does not exist, you can use the
Browse dialog to create it. Obviously PFB requires the path actually
exist to save the backup .pst files to there.
