I've got two different DLT drives here, both of which I've used with
WIN2k on this machine. However in WindowsXP when I open the Backup
Utility the "Backup Destination" pulldown bar is greyed out.

Whichever DLT drive I connect shows up in Device Manager as the proper
kind of tape drive and it claims "This device is working propery"

I've tried drivers from Quantum, and Microsoft's drivers. No luck
either way. Is there something I'm missing? I'm about ready to
install win2k on this machine just so I can do backups.
Thanks for any advice you might have,
-James

If yr talking about the winxp default backup utility I dont believe it will
backup other than to hd.
Do not yr drives have backup software?
There are compatibility issues with versions of win backup utility
Personally I've allways used a seperate backup app.

An update; I installed Win2k in another directory on this machine and
my backups are running right now. Media management doesn't even work
in XP. If I put a tape in the drive while Win2k is running, whithin a
few minutes some windows service or other will read the tape data.
Then I can manage the tapes from "Computer Management" XP never even
does this.

It seems to me there is something major missing in XP on this front.
