John;
See this link:

If Windows XP Home is OEM, you may not have these files.

I think you will find HOME edition doesn't have this
facility. You can download a 'backup' system for XP Home
ED. but the one I got doesn't seem to work anyway!
Perhaps using something free off a magazine like PC Pro -
if you are UK based - they have ARGENTUM backup 1.5 for
free which may be a solution. If you have really loads of
data (40 Gigs or so) then it is worth online backup but
it comes at a price. Much easier to have a second hard
drive and just assign it as your slave and send
everything to it. I keep XP running on both drives so if
one drive crashes I can still boot to the other one with
whatever I have saved to it accessible.

having 2nd hdd is always a good idea. also there are very good but a bit
expensive tapedrives in the market. there is the "raid" alternative as well.
you might get a controller card if your motherboard doesnt support it i
guess.

but what i dont understand is all the fuss about xp-home missing backup
utility. i have an oem xp-home cd and when i browse i find "ntbackup" in
directory \valueadd\msft\

i reckon its kind of an old-fashioned tool probably inherited from "nt"
times as the name suggests but still works ok.

am i missing something

regards
ca
