Usually the tape drive comes with a backup program.

You must be looking for something like Ghost.

I never was much on backing up a system. That's what the Windows
distribution disk is for. Why not just back up your files with a program
like Cobain Backup? It's probably quicker to re-install Windows and files
than do a complete system restore.

Using that destroys all the work you've done securing the OS. It would
take me a long time to reset everything.

Not if you use a clone restore facility which only copies files that
have changed or don't exist, and deletes files that no longer exist.
Then it goes very quickly. I use XXCOPY with the /clone switch. It's a
little bit tricky but it can be done. I can reclone Windows off a
backup hard drive on a removeable tray. Works very well.
