I will shortly be bying a laptop, what i need is a program like norton
ghost, i have norton ghost on floppy which i use on my desktop comp,
but of course with laptops you do not get a floppy drive so i cannot
use norton anymore.

I do not want to use any windows program that has to be installed on
the hard drive because it adds extra files to be backed up.

Anybody know of a program that comes on cd that is similar to norton.

alpha.

Working on a laptop at the moment, it has a floppy drive.

Don't have a program for you, at the moment.

Consider purchasing a USB floppy drive. Seen them for as little as $35 at
CompUSA. Think I paid $39 for mine about a year ago and it has saved me a
lot of grief from time to time.

Course you could see the thread (8/8/05 at 8:59am by buzz LightBeer) subject
" Bart's PE Builder (Create a live Windows bootable distro) and you have
your free program plus a whole lot more. You can add the Norton Ghost as a
plug-in to the CD and have it all....

Or you could just follow this link.. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/#start and
read about it.

Why don't you make a bootable CD (most CD-burning apps provide for
doing this) and copy the Ghost floppy to it. You then just need to
boot that CD with the laptop (you end up at the A:> prompt, IIIRC),
switch to the CD-ROM drive letter and run Ghost. Just before you are
ready to press the Burn button, replace your CD with a blank CD-R.

Try it out on the desktop first.

Bart's PE Builder is the basic ingredient in the Ultimate Boot CD 4
Win, which has freeware utilities. Bart's uses commercial and
shareware utilities I think.

Anyway, the UBCD4Win contains utilities to image or mirror your boot
drive. I use the Lexun DrvImagerXP to image and to restore the image.

The CD is great to boot from and run virus scans, remove malware,
recover data, etc.
