BACKUP PROBLEMS - OUTLOOK 2003

(Didn't get a solution to this when I posted a week or two back so I'm trying
again!)

The Backup option doesn't come up on my Outlook 'File' command. When I
downloaded and tried to install the Backup programme, a message came up that
it's already installed and I should remove the current version via Control
Panel.

I've done that - but it still seems to think there's a version installed,
and I can't get past this.

Any suggestions welcome!

Look in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office11\Addins. Do you see
outbak.dll there? If so, it is already installed. Start Outlook and click
Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options>COM Add-Ins. Do you see "Outlook
Backup Addin"? If not, click Add, browse to the file above, select it, and
click OK. It should appear now. OK out of all the dialogues, stop and
restart Outlook. DOes Backup appear in File now?

There is, but the file isn't there either! In fact I searched the whole of
the 'C' drive to no avail ...

Do you see "Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup" in Add/Remove
Programs? If so, try to uninstall it there. Do you see any references to
the file in the registry? Look in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Addins and
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins . If you see
"Microsoft.OutlookBackup.1 in either or both, Export those Addins keys, then
delete "Microsoft.OutlookBackup.1" from each and then try to reinstall.

Thanks for persevering, Brian, but that didn't work either! I located and
deleted two Microsoft.OutlookBackup.1 folders in the registry (not exactly
where you suggested but similar) and tried again, with exactly the same
result. (I even did a restart to see if that would help - it didn't!)

Do you think this is the end of the line?

All best
Rose

I thought you had said Office 2007. I see now that you said Outlook 2003,
so it would have been "11.0" and not "12.0"

It is for me, I'm afraid. Sorry.
