backup only new files freeware?

I have looked into several freewares for backing up and synching files, but
they seem to require a full old list of files to where I am backing them up
before they can add new or changed files. But that isn't quite what I want.

I want to use my thumb flash drive to keep my laptop and desktop kind of
synchronized, but I don't want to have all the files I have thus far backed
up on the flash drive (way too much data for 512mb.)

What I want is a freeware that will back up any new files I create such as:
docs, excel, music, pictures by copying it to "Save for Laptop" folder for
example. Then in a week or two, I can just drag or send the files in that
Save for Laptop folder to the jump drive. Of course I would have to put
them where they belong once I get them on the laptop.

Any suggestion or more questions? I don't have a network to connect my 2
PCs and I think I understand I can't just plug a USB cable into both PCs for
keeping things synched. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

This program will do what you want. You have to set up a profile for
how you wish files to be synchronized and in order to skip files of
certain age (or any other criteria) you must use the "expert"
settings. It's pretty self-explanatory once you have the profile
settings manager in front of you. It is positively incredible
freeware.

I use this one.

Karen's Replicator
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp
Automatically backup files, directories, even entire drives! Karen's
Replicator copies selected files from one drive/folder to another.
Source and Destination folders can reside anywhere on your network.
Files larger than 2 GB are supported.

Options include repeated copies at intervals as short as a few
minutes, or as long as several months, copy only files that have
changed, and the replication of file deletions.

New features allow you to specify which files should not be copied,
and also which days a file should be skipped!

I'm not sure it does. I think she means, just copy new/changed files to
the USB drive, not all of them. SyncBack and other programs - I tend to
use XXCOPY, which still has a free-for-personal-use version:
XXCopy, the "boldly extended XCOPY" http://www.xxcopy.com/index.htm
- will tend to only work properly *if the file dates are correct*. I.e.,
what happens if you download a file and it arrives with an older date, or
your AV software or whatever re-dates it to the newest file in the
archive, which might be older than your last USB-transfer date? I
actually use another 2brightsparks freeware, FingerPrint, which makes MD5
checksums. This I run regularly for much the same job, but then I have to
manually transfer the results to my file manager (Total Commander,
excellent shareware) to do the copying. Not seamless, but usable. I
would certainly like a seamless version...

Since I use it in /precisely/ the way she wishes to, I think I know
if it will or not. Thank you for playing. Now...buh bye.

When you were born, was it your father or mother or both who passed to you
