backup will not run

having a problem with the backup util in xp pro.

while trying to setup backup for the first time i was
switching between advanced and wizard mode. the app
froze and crashed and ever since i am unable to run it.

every time i try, the program window opens for a split
second and then disappears.

any help?

Reinstall Backup from the CD.

unable to. searched my xp install disk and found no
Backup. 'Add/Remove Windows Components' does not list it.

i even downloaded the ntbackup.msi program for xp home
and ran that.

no joy...

hoping i don't have to do a clean install just to get
this running.
