I need more help from the pros!

I attempted to perform a Backup of my system. I went to Programs, selected
Accessories, then System Tools and I couldn't find Backup. System Restore
appeared along with other options, but the Backup option was missing?

I just recently performed the latest Windows Update without any errors.

How can System Restore be an option, and not have Backup as an option? Has
this in someway been deleted? I didn't delete it... not knowingly, anyway!
Do you have a suggestion?

Your help will be greatly appreciated, needless to say.

Google is your friend. I typed this into a Google search box:
ntbackup "windows xp home"
and came up with this detailed tutorial:

I don't believe I was clear as to what the problem is? I do have Windows XP
Home, 2002 SP3, with all current updates. When I attempted to backup the
system the Backup option was missing. As I mentioned, I went to Start,
selected Programs, then Accessories, next System Tools. but Backup was
missing from the list of Options. System Restore appeared along with other
options, but the Backup option was missing?

I have another computer with Windows XP Pro and Backup is an option, and
that system was updated the same day as the system with Windows XP Home. How
can the Backup option be missing?

I guess, Microsoft goofed?!

"Users of XP Home Edition that have tried to back up their systems may have
been surprised to find that the Backup utility is not included in the default
installation of Windows XP Home Edition. No Backup icon is present on the
Start menu in Windows XP Home Edition, nor is Backup listed in Add Remove
Programs for Windows XP Home edition. No mention of the utility is made
anywhere during the installation, but it is included with Windows XP Home
Edition. It's just necessary to do a manual install to prepare it for use.

To Manually Install the Backup Utility

1. Insert the CD Rom and navigate to CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP\

2 Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the wizard that installs
Backup 3. When the wizard is complete, click Finish."

How 'bout them apples?!

I suppose it's a matter of opinion. You say that MS goofed
whereas MS probably say that it was a business decision to
make the installation of ntbackup on WinXP Home an option.
Anyway, I guessed that you have WinXP Home and I gave you
the link. It's no big deal to follow the instructions.

It is rather interesting that Microsoft found it "appropriate" to include
Backup in XP Pro, and thereafter. And, after reading all of the complaints
regarding Backup missing from Home... not good publicity, regardless. Plus,
why have Restore if Backup is not provided, right? Not to argue the point,
but the critics have you outnumbered -- although, that doesn't distract from
your personal support.

The "system restore points" in Windows XP are not in any way associated
with "backup" and have no use at all for the files "backup" creates.

Plato:

No question, but, as you know, it's a painful task to "manually" rebuild a
system, especially with a hard drive disaster!
