not 'see' may mapped drive? However, I can access the mapped drive just

You can't. The built-in backup only backs up local drives. Run a
backup locally on the system that contains the share you're
mapping to.

Sorry, I misread your question. In any event, you can only
backup _to_ locally attached drives.

so you cant do a direct mapped drive, but what about the 'map location
in an NFTS folder', that you can do in drive management? use a mapped
drive location as an NFTS folder?

never used NTFS folder mounting tho, so not a clue on it's capabilities.
just a question/idea

No, you can only mount local volumes this way.

OK - let me try again: On a LAN server1 (winxp) has a disk shared
(share1). Server2 (vista) maps the share from server1 (\\server1\share1)
as Z: drive. Next I start the vista backup/restore wizard - which only
looking for DVD and 'local' disks.

How do I configure vista backup to back up to my Z: drive (a mapped
network drive)?

Again, you can't. The built-in backup program will only backup
_to_ locally attached drives.

I thought that back up to network drive works if you run backup app from
command line...
