Backup made with win 2000 server tool

Hi,
I have a costumer that made a backup with windows 2000 server backup tool.
Can I restore that backup with windows xp or do I have to run it on windows
2000 server?
Another question, my costumer delivered me 6 tapes, but he's not sure if the
backup is a volume of the 6 tapes or independent. How can I check that?
