Can anyone tell me if windows backup files (.bkf) are compressed? That is,
if I backup a system with HCff and copy the bkf file off somewhere, make
some changes to the system, and then do another backup, will the two files
be completely different byte for byte?

Thanks

Hi Louis, the backup application will not compress the BKF file. There is no
garantee that the BKFs obtained between 2 backup will be identical since
files could have been changed (such as attributes, data content, alternate
streams, security descriptors etc). Note that some of these changes are not
visible from shell.
