I'm looking to buy about 300-500 GB worth of backup space for home use - something I can leave with the neighbours when we go away for the weekend. Normally for internal hard drives I'd just get the Western Digital that was the size I needed, but I know very little about external USB ones.

Can anyone give me some recommendations, or things to avoid?
