I have just acessed my backup (Office 2003) to find that last saved out and
in mail is from Febuary despite excuting a backup every 7 days i.e. where are
the most recent messages? I have tested this by doing a backup and then
looking at data, again mail is only up to Febuary. I get no error messages
and backup is held on a large half full external drive. Have looked at
setting and can see no way that it could be set to only save old messages.
Would much appreciate a fix as this is critical to me.

Thanks

How are you producing this backup?

PS No need to shout in your subject line

Youve checked the backup options to ensure you are accessing the correct
backup file, and of course backing up the correct file?
You are simply opening this File in OL?

Yes and yes, I have only one backup file. I am opening backup in OL via
"file", "backup", "open backup" and selecting correct (only) file. This then
loads to "all mail folders" pane as an extra "presonal folders" in tree.
Could send some screen shots if need be.

Thanks for the help - has me very confused.

Has me confused also, since the backup addin merely copies the pst.
There's no particular View set?

With OL *closed* copy your primary pst to some other location, eg My
Documents. Give it a unique pst name.
Open OL, File>Open.......this data file, and verify the contents

I suppose you could also create a new backup ie backup to a different
location. Backup then open this new data file and verify contents.

DL thanks for this I did as you suggested and test backup was fine. I then
deleted original "stuck" backup with a new one waited few days did another
backup to verify if it had backed up the intermediate messages which it had.
Most puzzling must say.

For my sins I am an auditor (quality not beans) and we would say the only
good backup is one that is validated frequently - need to apply this to my
own stuff.
Thanks for the help case closed.
