That's entirely possible, in the sense that I didn't actually check the
files one by one, I just noticed this sea of PDF files and figured they were
all PDFs. I'll keep a look out next time to see what other types of files
might have also been in there.

In fact, previously I was using the backup program you get with Nero 6,
which is a clone or rewrite or "new and improved version" of the Windows
version, and everything worked fine. I may end up going back to it if this
doesn't get straightened out. I was only trying to switch over to the
Windows version because it's "standard."

So it's probably not just a PDF-specific thing, it's something "deeper and
more mysterious." Okay, then, I'll do my part by keeping on observing, and
posting any insights or further perplexities that come out of it.
