backup and restore problem

At the advice of a MS tech, I reinstalled Vista to correct some serious
corruption problems. I had to do a clean install, and ran a complete backup
onto my z drive, where all my automatic backups are also stored, and the
drive looks pretty full. But now I can't restore them. I can see that there
are backup files when I open the drive, but even after sharing everything
with everyone, Backup and Restore can't find the latest backup and says I
don't have access to the older ones. I would like my programs and files
back. Can anyone help?

"Ana" left the room IN JANUARY OF 2008. My bet is that she's found a
solution by now, but is no longer monitoring the thread.

Take note of the number of posts made by "Ana" on Vistaheads: n/a.
Know what that means? Her post was slurped off of Microsoft Usenent
servers, so she's not registered at Vistaheads, and the same goes for
anyone with "n/a" as their number of posts - myself included.
