backup & copy webs locally

I have a Win 98 hard drive with FP 2000 and a bunch of webs on it. The
drive is starting to fail and will have to be replaced. Is there a way to
copy the webs to a CD or another directory and then copy them to the new
hard drive so that things will be back to exactly how they were? FP and PWS
will be installed exactly as on the original drive. I know publishing from
the live web to the local host is the usual way to do this, but for various
reasons, they do not match exactly (on purpose), so publishing from the live
web to the new hard drive would cause me to lose some work.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Can you create subwebs on the remote server, if so, then you could publish
your current copy there, then when you get your new HD, open the subweb and
publish back.

Thanks for the idea...I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try.
I suppose FP 2003 would be just as difficult/impossible in terms of figuring
out what directories or files need to be copied from disk to disk to have a
duplicate of the web locally.
Thanks again

If you have direct file access you can just copy the entire folder to CD (be
sure to get hidden files).

Then when you want to put them back, make webs up with the same names, then
copy the data from the CD back into those folders, over-writing anything
that was there. (Also note you may have to uncheck "read only" on all the
files too.)

Publishing somewhere else would work OK too.

The CD approach actually will work, but will require additional work to
restore.

One thing you could do is to copy the web to a CD and then copy it back to
your hard drive in a location that has exactly the same complete path name
as on the old drive.

Another thing that works, if you want to invest a little money, is to buy
one of those little portable USB hard drives. You could publish your site to
that and then publish it back to your new hard drive.
