Backup always fails

On my Inspiron 531, when ever I try to back up drive c or at the regularly
schedualed time, after backup has run for a minute or so, I get an error
message saying that the back up failed. Is there something I have to turn on
or off, or some setting I have to change to get it to back up?

Couple of thoughts:

1. Do you get a particular error message or error code that goes with the
failure message?
2. What is your backup destination; e.g. an external hard drive? DVD?
3. Has your backup scheme ever worked, and what events preceded the first
failure?

      13th Sep 2007
my HP pavilion notebook does the same thing. It has had this problem since
the first day i turned the computer on. I've been using the backup in Norton
360. Theres no error code..... it just say's "backup has failed" or something
to that extent.Must be something with Vista..
