Backuip Outlook pst with active sync running

I have been using outlook for some time and realize that to do a backup I
have to quit outlook (not exchange server use) before I can backup the pst.
I like to do this every night, but sometimes I forget to shut outlook down
and the backup fails.

I have just got a mobile win 6 smartphone (blackjack II) and it has
installed active sync. Now I find that the backup does not run even when I
do close down outlook as I guess that the active sync app has control of the
pst.

I cannot find a way to shut down the active sync application, so how do I do
my nightly backup?

Might depend on the backup app being used;
In the past I have used a batchfile in my backup process to terminate apps,
prior to the backup process running, then restarting the app after the
backup has completed

Yes but if you kill the outlook process it damages the pst and it takes
forever to reload next time!!

Other than remembering to correctly close OL at the end of the day, there's
no other method

So after doing a lot of "playing" I may have solved the issue. You do have
to remember to close Outlook, that is a given, BUT the active sync problem is
something else. It only seems to have control over outlook if the phone is
plugged in. the backup will run if Outlook is closed aAND the phone is NOT
plugged in.

So I now need to remeber to unplug the phone from the sync when I shut down
for the night - something I never had to do when I ran a palm based phone.

Thanks for your hlp

Hello

I confirm that it isn't a good idea to kill Outlook
I recommend you to use the product BackupMyFolder! that allow you to
backup even if Outlook is open !
Go to http://www.addonmail.com/Products/BackupMyFolder.asp
