Recently it has become necessary for me to hit "backspace" several
times before the previous screen appears. The information
"ad.doubleclick.net" and sometimes "127.0.0.1" appears on the lower
left of the screen during the process. Can someone please tell
what's going on, and how to fix it? I have XP. Many thanks.

I tried the solution given, that is including the adserver addresses
in the restricted zone. Problem continues, however. It takes several
hits on "backspace" to go to previous screen. It's a real pain, even
on the yahoo site. Any other possible solutions? Thanks again.

Rename your HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS or HOSTS.OLD...or just delete it &
reboot.

I had the same problem and deleting the hosts file took care of it.

Thanks. Is there any security downside to not having a HOSTS file?
Thanks again.

Overall, no...at least if you practice Safe Hex.
