backspace no longer deleting selected words, just moves cursor

's Computer Specifications

The backspace button doesn't delete selected text. Plus when text is
selected, I can't write over it. I know there's a simple solution but can't
remember what.

Tools > Options > Edit > check the option "Typing replaces selection".
