1. Do not use any Norton products.
2. Do not use any registry cleaners. Do a search at Google Groups
Advanced Search for "registry cleaners" and constrain the newsgroup to
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general to read discussions about registry
cleaners.
3. Recommended antivirus programs are NOD32, Kaspersky, or Avast if you
want a free one. The built-in Windows Firewall is adequate for most people.
4. Purchase an external hard drive and an imaging program such as
Acronis True Image which can image your system and do incremental backups.
