If your new PC uses Vista, Vista comes with the Easy Transfer Program.
Don't buy an expensive USB cable with the PC connector on both ends
(selling for up to $45), get a crossover ethernet cable for just a
couple of bucks.

Otherwise, if you want to start out right on your new PC, Acronis True
image installed on your old PC - backup it up - then restore to your new
PC. I like Acronis and a USB hard drive.

Easy way...use an external USB hard drive. Copy the music tracks in
their native (e.g., *.wav) format to the external USB hard drive and
use it as the transport medium to re-copy to the new computer. Keep
the music files on the external USB hard drive as the first backup.
At the same time, make a second backup copy on different medium, such
DVD-R or CD-R for more permanent storage.

If you are migrating from one XP installation to another FAST (Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard) is an option. Do not get rid of the source files
(i.e. the original disk) until the transfer is successful.

Another option is to install the old drive in the new computer as a slave
drive and copy the data files or use that old drive as secondary storage,
deleting the XP installation on it if there is one.
