backing up registry

      13th Mar 2004
I need to back up registry. I did
programs>assessories>system tools, but there is no back
up option after that. All instructions list "backup" as
an option under system tools. Can you help?

get into the registry...
regedit...
and file export......

What OS are you using. WinXP home doesn't install the backup utility by default. This may be why you don' t have it. It can be install off the OS CD. Here is a link that exlains the process.

By default, backup is not installed in Windows XP Home Edition. You have to
install it.

Jen;
Go to Internet Explorer. Click on Start>Programs>Accessories> System Tools.
Backup should be there , along with Defrag , System Restore , etc.
If it isn't , then possibly you will find it on your CD that came with your
PC, in the " value added" group and just has yet to be loaded.
If this doesn't help , reply back to this string.

While that will perform the requested function, when you import the
registry, it combines the imported registry with the current registry adding
a lot of bloat.

There are several free utilities that handle this function without that
drawback, check the following:
