backing up pc

's Computer Specifications

I purchased Sonic My dvd burner for my compac, xp program,pc so I could back
up my files.When I try to do a complete backup I get a message, message
writeing error occured, use new media,turn off screen saver,etc. also when I
close out I get message from smart heap library,mem bad pointer. I have 137gb
of free space and 384mb of ram.I need help,please.
All help appreciated.
