I'm trying to back-up Quickbooks onto a portable drive and I can't figure out
how to do it. I've followed directions on the Windows site but I do not have
a "backup" option in the System Tools section.

Can anyone help???

Quickbooks uses a file extension of .Qbw. You don't necessarily have
to use the built-in backup which writes the Quickbooks data file to a
different filename type. You can simply copy the _________.QBW file
directly using Windows Explorer.

Windows Backup is not installed on a computer running XP Home Edition. You need
to locate ntbackup.msi on your XP HE installation CD if you want to install this
program. It can be found in the VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP folder on the
installation CD.

HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home Edition

You can also download the file from this web site.

Installing the Backup Program on the Home Version

Direct download of ntbackup.msi.

That said, the versions of QuickBooks I've seen have a backup feature built
right into the program. It will create a .QBB file wherever you like.
Personally, I'd rather have a file saved in the application's native format than
take the chance that Microsoft's Backup program will perform when needed. Check
QuickBooks help for more info or the Intuit web site.

Good luck

You almost certainly have XP Home, were ntbackup is not included, but that's
beside the point; it's not the tool for this job.

Do this from within Quickbooks, attach your portable drive and save,
export, or backup the file from there (as well as the local copy).
Alternately, locate your quickbooks data file, and simply copy it manually
to the portable drive. You don't need any other tools for this, and you
don't really want to add another layer of potential failure.
