Backing up failure

After succesfully using the back up system in Vista I find that this time it
fails with the following message:

'The Back up did not complete successfully for the following reason:
The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the
specified operation.
(0x8004230F)'

I was using a previous writable DVD which had worked before.
I tried a new DVD with the same result.
I have recently downloaded a BIOS update from DELL which did not seem to
complete satisfactorily.

Can anyone offer any help?

I know this is not what you want to hear. However, it's a very practical and
reliable solution.

Acronis True Image 11 Home
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing...cts/trueimage/

It can be purchased from NewEgg.com for about $36.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832200004

This application will do anything you need to do. It includes many features
that Vista does not have, and more importantly - it works!

I too have recently started to experience this issue with a Western Digital
external backup hard drive. I have seen some posts elsewhere that suggest if
your computer has gone to sleep at some time before the backup begins it
could render the failure code you have provided. However, my backup failed
today and the computer as not been asleep at any time.

I have done nothing to this laptop other than install the latest round of
updates for Vista, etc. (but not SP1).

Might be an idea to check to see if those pre-updates before SP1 release
was for USB though....IIRC, there was (someone please correct me if I am
wrong). :-)
