Hi,
I have an XP Pro machine with a 250GB removable HD attached. What is the
easiest way to backup my settings and files either daily or constantly and
automatically?

In an ideal world I would also like to have 5 backups (Mon to Friday) on the
drive with the new backup copying over the same day on the next week in an
incremental way.

I have tried using the Windows Backup program that comes with XP Pro but
have been unable to get it to work automatically.

A dedicated backup app such as Acronis True Image would do the job, a free
trial is available.

Backup Solutions

True Image:
http://www.acronis.com/

Ghost:
http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoff...r&pvid=ghost12

If your PC has a Seagate or Maxtor Hard Drive there is a utility (Seagate
DiscWizard)
which is based on Acronis True Image and is free:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

It's a matter of preference, all three are image backup utilities and work
well.
The backup (image file) needs to be created on a second drive (internal or
external).
Check each product to see if it's supports your storage media and interface
(USB, Etc.)
