Had to reload winxp on a Compaq system.
Went to update win to sp2, etc. and errors came up regarding Background
Intelligent Transfer Service.
Went to Services.mcs and there is no entry for this.

Can I d/l it seperately?

L.

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=906602

1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

2. You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;822798

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with the download/install.

3b. Compare errors to those listed here:

Looked at the articles below and they suggest two solutions.

The necessary services are disabled or unavailable. Error 0x80246008
(Resolution 1)

The necessary services are disabled or unavailable. Error 0x80246008
(Resolution 2)

Problem is, I don't even have an entry for BITS in services.msc and I can't
find a solution for that, unless I'm missing something. Tried to d/l BITS
2.x but says I have to have Winxp """SP2""" which I'm trying to d/l.
Seems a catch 22 is going on.

Any other suggestion , please.

Thanks for the help. Kept getting all kinds of other errors also, so--
gave up, reformatted HD and did a complete fresh install..
Everything working OK.

Since I'm going to donate this system to the local Historical Society, this
will get rid of anything they don't need and I dont' want them to have.
