Background color of the image reverts ...

Hi,

In the process of inserting an image into a document, I faced the following
issue:

The doc had a colored background and the image, a white background. I used
an image editing tool to match the background color of the image with that of
the doc. After spending an hour or so on the task, I tried inserting the
transformed image into the doc. Alas! The background color of the image
reverted to its original !!

Any idea what could the problem be? Thanks.
