Greetings,

There are some great 3rd party applications that can backup your whole hard
drive. For example:

I wish you good luck with your backup!

Thanks!

You dont need 3rd party add-ons for a backup, you dont even need the
xp cd.Microsoft techs say the best back-up utility for xp is the file-transfer
wizard.Open the wizard, set computer as old, transfer data to a new folder
that you create (desktop is good),once the data is transfered to the new
folder,R.click on the folder, then send to the cdrw. This way if xp or a hd
crash,you simply reinstall xp,then reopen the wizard,youre files,settings
are intact, you could/can even use it on any xp machine.

Whoa this is so wrong it's scarey. First of NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER put folders or programs on the desktop. It's for shortcuts only. Secondly this doesn't backup XP nor restore it. As you indicated you need the XP CD to reinstall XP first and then add in the stuff from this folder you created. Thirdly, as in my case, I have tons of stuff on my OS that I would like to save in a backup so it would simply be a matter of clicking and reinstalling it all, unfortunately this is around 20GB of stuff and XP does not have any tools capable of spanning multiple disks. In Short you need a third party software or about a week to do incremental backups of XP by backing up the system to files that are no larger than about 620MB the usuall max on a CD\RW disk. If on the other hand you simply want to do a backup of your system to the Hard Disk Drive then use the NT Backup found in your start\all programs\accessories\system tools\backup or if it's XP Home then it's on the disk in valueadd\msft\ntbackup and can be installed from there. }:~)

The Home version of Backup will not enable you to do an ASR. It is very
limited in it's function which is likely one reason it doesn't install by
default on XP Home.
