Often I use the Wizard to back up my System State and I assumed all
"critical" settings were stored. However, yesterday I attempted a
back-up of my root partition and most of the profiles and many system
files didn't make it (according to "verify"). Is it possible to back-up
an entire partition in which W2k resides? I thought that would be a
"duh"...

It "is" possible to back-up the OS---all of it? Soooo, I could restore
that to a diffeent drive and so long that drive had the proper MBR, I
could boot to it? Am I missing something?

Yes. Don't verify, it falsely fails.
I have never had a backup that completed not be able to restore.
