I had a complete meltdown, and I had to restore to factory. I used back up I
made on a portable, everything is back except for all of my office software.
I found it in back up files and tried to restore them again, no luck. All of
my documents are back but i can't open any!

You need to install the Office programs from the original installation
media (probably CDs). You can't restore the programs from backup. Once
you have installed the programs, you'll be able to open the documents.

That I don't know. You would know more about Complete PC Backup than I
since I've never used it. If Complete PC Backup acts like an imaging
program (Acronis TI or the like) then I suppose it would. That's not
what it sounds like is happening to the OP though.
