The 9.5 GB partition on my HD is not large enough for my scheduled back ups.
Is there a way to increase the size of this partition?

Tommy,

If this partition was already on your drive when you purchased your
computer I imagine it is the recovery partition to be used in the event you
need to reinstall your OS. If this is the case you certainly don't want to
put anything on it.
I suggest you purchase an external drive and put your backups there.
You can then leave the backups there or you can burn them onto DVDs.

Yes, but far more important than the answer is that you should *not*
do this.

I don't recommend backup to a second non-removable hard drive because
it leaves you susceptible to simultaneous loss of the original and
backup to many of the most common dangers: severe power glitches,
nearby lightning strikes, virus attacks, even theft of the computer. A
second partition on your only drive is even worse, since you can add
drive failure to the list above.

In my view, secure backup needs to be on removable media, and not kept
in the computer. For really secure backup (needed, for example, if the
life of your business depends on your data) you should have multiple
generations of backup, and at least one of those generations should be
stored off-site.
