Back-up of files & programs to External Hard-Drive

's Computer Specifications

I'm sure there is a simple solution to this.

I have connected a USB 80GB External Hard-Drive and I wish to save all my
files, programs and operating systems to this drive for safe-keeping.

Where & how to I do this please ?

My operating system (?) is Windows XP Pro.
