This depends on your browser, but most browsers enable
several methods. IE saves these URLs as the contents of
C:\windows\favorites which can be copied in the ordinary
way. Firefox offers / Bookmarks / Organize / File / Export
(because it saves the URLs in coded form in
c:/ wndows / Application Data / Mozilla / Firefox / Profile . . . )

In Internet Explorer, choose File|Import and Export... Save the file
that results in a safe place. After your procedure use the same menu
choice to import that file into the new installation.

I am using IE6 and over the past few days, I have check a few times that I
cannot find the folder "favourite' in C:\Windows\favourite. Is there
something wrong with my Windows at this stage although itmay seems towork
fine, a bit slow. Thanks for your help.

Look in the C:\documents and settings folder under your login name (XP).
Mine would be C:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Favorites.
You can just copy the contents to a thumb drive and then reverse to
restore them.
