As I type a Document and need to add a word, or phrase by back-spacing Word
deletes what was already typed letter by letter on that line.

How do I correct the settings?

That's what Backspace does on a computer. If you just want to go backward,
use the left arrow key.

Or move your cursor with the mouse, and left-click at the spot where
you want to make your addition.
