When I am in any windows app, I cant get past the first screen. Example, in
IE if I am in Yahoo and click sports in goes there for a fraction of a second
then reverts back to main screen. Happens in any window app that does not
open in a new window. Have changed keyboard and did a restore and replaced
keyboard drivers.

Might be your pointing device acting up.

Do you have fancy mouse software installed that offers button-click
combinations and such? If so, uninstall it.
Try a different mouse.
Disable the touchpad, if it's a notebook. If it's a touchpad, make sure
you're not touching it when you don't mean to.
Check and update or uninstall drivers for pointing device(s).

That's all I can think of.
