Back button refreshes previous screen

Okay, on a game that I play there is a message board where new messages are
boldened. I could follow a message thread, and then as I backed out with the
back button the messages would remain boldened, in stead of returning to
normal as they do when you have read them.
Now, however, as I back through the threads, it refreshes the screens so
that the new messages are no longer boldened.
Any thoughts on what might have changed on my browser to cause this?
