Back button - previous screen cacheing

I had to reboot my machine after irreversable problems. I
frequent a lot of message boards that indicate when I
haven't read a particular post. Before reloading, I could
click a link, read the message, hit the back button and
the indicator would be gone, indicating I had now read
that post. Since reloading, when I hit the back button,
it reloads the exact same screen as was there before I
clicked, basically telling me that I haven't read it when
in fact I just did. I changed my settings in the tools
menu to check for newer versions of the web page every
time I visit, which I assume is supposed to solve my
problem, but it doesn't. Any suggestions on how to fix
this, this is terribly annoying to have to refresh the
page every time I hit the back button.
