avp.exe application error

Something bad has happened to my computer. When I boot up, a window appears
with the red X on it that says:

A Breakpoint has been reached at location 0x7c839a95
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

If I get rid of this window in any way, the program consumes all the
remaining CPU usage, making the computer very sluggish.

I can't seem to get rid of this thing, and I can't find any frank discussion
of what it is.

Where do I start looking?

Thanks,

Norm Strong

p.s. Obviously I'm not computer savvy.

It might be a virus.

Boot in "safe mode" and run a virus scan.

To boot in safe mode, reset the system and keep tapping F8 until the safe
mode menu appears.

Choose the safest boot (no network).

Norman

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

This process belong to Kasperskay Anti-virus, you will need to check your
Anti-virus application is functioning okay and not corrupt or damaged.
Uninstall it then reinstall and run a thorough scan on your system.

Yes. My anti-virus is Kaspersky and it is the free one from AOL, which they
no longer support. Trouble is, I can't uninstall it. It refuses to allow
this. Any suggestions?
